“SORRY SOLD  11/5/07”

1950 Jaguar XK120 Alloy Roadster: Birch Grey/Two tone-Biscuit trimmed in Red leather/Black Cloth Top & Tonneau and a set of Side Screens; Chassis # 670170; Engine 3442cc straight six; light alloy hemi cylinder head; twin overhead camshaft, twin SU carburetors; 160bhp at 5,400 rpm; manual 4 speed Moss gearbox; independent front torsion bar suspension; live rear axle with semi-elliptical leaf springs; Lockheed hydraulic drum brakes; knock off wire wheels; British Heritage Certificate comes with the car.

The rise of Jaguar as a major manufacturere is directly linked to the great XK series engine that was conceived and designed by William Lyons and his team of engineers dring the war years. In the spring of 1949, a bronze colored XK120 had slipped quietly out of the Jaguar works to Dover and across the English Channel by ferry to Belgium to do some high speed tests on the motorway between Ostend and Brussels. The roadster achieved a speed of 126 mph with the soft top up and side screens in place. The XK120 roadster just about re-invented the modern sports car as we know it today. The roadsters were used to great effect in just about every type of sport motoring, rallying and racing and the famous XK C Type was derived directly from the XK120 to become one of the truly great race cars of all time.

Jaguar had built just 58 right hand drive and 184 left hand drive roadsters before discontinuing the aluminum body!!!

This car has received a complete valve job with new hard seats for todays modern fuel. It also has received a new gas tank, carb rebuild, fuel pump replacement, and a complete brake job including the master cylinder rebuild, all new hoses and wheel cylinders. This was all done becasue the car had sat for many years and was needed to make it road worthy.

#100-2032

This 1949 Jaguar XK120 Alloy Roadster (SN: 670076) has been in one family for 60 years. It was purchased by the Great Uncle of the current owner - (a WWII Veteran and Silver Star Recipient). Due to the passing of the Great Uncle, there is no paperwork to prove that he purchased the car new however, based on family stories, it is believed that the car was purchased new by him. He was a career Air Force NCO stationed in France in the 50’s. There is a record of a minor traffic accident that occurred in that country wherein he injured a pedestrian.

The vehicle went from Europe to New England sometime in the late 1950's. The vehicle was moved from different storage areas (normally old barns and such) for many years. The vehicle made it's way from New England to the Mid Atlantic after he retired and moved to be closer to family. This Alloy XK120 was passed on to the current owner some 30 years ago. The current owner has consigned it for sale to Doc’s Jags who believes the car, based on the updated XK120 Alloy registry, to be the last unknown Alloy Roadster in existence. The car has been in storage and in tact for the past 30 years. The car was driven last in the 1960’s. Doc’s Jags is proud to be able to offer this extremely rare and important car.

The vehicle was kept a secret for most of it's existence as not to draw unwanted attention to it. It is Doc’s Jags hope that this very rare car gets a new chance at life.

1950 XK 120 OTS ALL ALLOY Roadster; in silver with red hides; Archive report; X Lord Antony Rufus Isaacs (Speed Vision fame); X George Gillette; X Peter Thomas (billionaire real-estate magnate, famous classic car collector and BC Business Entrepreneur of the year) ; X RM Personal; Bill Jacobs (Chicago); X Joe Diehl (famous Arizona collector); COLLECTIONS; A very important and historic factory Aluminum prototype 120 OTS. One of only 183 left hand alloy roadsters ever built (of total 218), limited hand built production Jaguar Super Sport cars, built especially for racing and the promotion of the Factory's name. Recipient of a $100,000++ Hill and Vaughn(Orange Cty California) Restoration in 1999; Now, Famous alloy specialists Doc's Jags will place correct alloy windscreen, and correct "high hat" carburetors back onto this important Jaguar.(currently equipped with 2 inch SU's) (***Note: Prototype 67001 just sold for $450,000 in August Monterey, California RM Auction; X Walter Hill). Also #670123 for nearly $200,000 at Goodings (XWalter Hill) and the #09 (eBay) for $125,200 (Sept 5th) with wrong engine in unrestored and difficult condition). These cars are on their way to $500,000++ soon. You can trust this opinion since none of my predictions these past 22 years concerning impending price levels has been wrong yet. This Jaguar comes with its original gearbox and driveshaft, having received a more useful five speed box, making it one of the best driving 120's on the road today. Participant in the 1999 Copper state 1000 and 2003 Gauthier Classic Car charity rallies, and many other events. Winner of many accolades in numerous shows.

The first Jaguar XK 120 Open Two Seater(OTS), launched at the Earls Court Motor Show, London, in October 1948. Virtually bankrupt at the end of World War 2, post-war Britain had to endure a period of tremendous austerity; the rationing of even the most basic items, including food, clothing and fuel, remained a way of life. Suddenly, here was a new sports car of dramatic, luxurious appearance with racing car performance to match.

This car is a tale about an engine that had a car built around it. Designed by the genius of Harry Westlake the 3442 cc, twin-duel overhead camshaft, high tensile aluminum head (only 50 lbs) unit, generating 160 bhp at 5,000 rpm through a four speed gearbox. Destined also to become the most heralded racing engine ever created up to that time, winning LeMans enduro 24 Hours more times than any other make of car, ever before it.
The styling of the car was very much the creation of Jaguar managing director William Lyons, who was knighted in 1956 and later became chairman or the company. With sleek lines, superb acceleration and a top speed of more than 130 mph, ("Soapy" Sutton, Jaguar's works test driver, achieved almost 133 mph at Jabekke in MAY 1949 (Brooklands small screens and 126 mph with full weather gear) NOTE* It was typically British to underplay the actual speed of the 120 by stating only 120mph capability in their adds. The model soon acquired a glamorous reputation and was billed as the worlds fastest production sports car. THIS EXAMPLE is the 164th off the Coventry production line and is finished in (pewter) silver with red Connolly leather interior.
These early 120's were all hand-built in aluminum over an ash wood frame in a manner reminiscent of pre-war coach building methods. A total of 57 right-hand and 183 left-hand-drive XK 120 Roadsters were manufactured. Most of them were exported with a selected number for competition use. (Only by assuring the government a 90% export rate could Lyons be assured of receiving a sufficient allocation of Britain's then scarce metal resources.) Steel bodied ( still partially aluminum) began production in April 1950.
However, Lyons ever public relations minded, built the first 200+ cars strictly, and hopefully for racing, incorporating a strategy that the XK 120 was the car to own if you wanted to win in today's competition. Raced by the greats in 1949-51 by such as Sterling Moss (winner Tourist Trophy Sept. 1951); Phil Hill, Pebble Beach (Laguna Seca today) first place, Sebring 1st, 2nd, 4th August 1949, etc.
